Dr. DeRouen is a native of Gulfport, MS.  After graduating in 1982 from Gulfport High School, he attended Jeff Davis junior college, University of Southern Mississippi, and University of Mississippi Medical Center, from which he graduated in 1992.  Dr. DeRouen then completed his internship and residency in Emergency Medicine at UMC in Jackson, MS in 1996.  Dr. DeRouen became board certified in 1997.  He practiced Emergency Medicine until June 2006.  Extensive knowledge and experience was gained by treating the vast array of patients in emergency situations.

His interest has always been cosmetic laser surgery.  The problem with lasers until recently was that the technology was not advanced enough for the procedures to be without risks. When the technology improved and procedures became safe, the decision was made to transition into cosmetic laser surgery. There is no official residency program that offers cosmetic laser training.  Dr. DeRouen spent the next year traveling the United states at prestigious institutions to train for the procedures he performs.  He attends conferences and advanced training seminars multiple times per year to keep up with the latest technology and cutting edge techniques.

Dr. Derouen is one of nineteen physicians in the United States and Canada that serves as a physician educator and instructor for Alma Lasers.   This means that he educates and trains physicians in laser procedures from all over the United States.  Alma Lasers is one of the most progressive and technologically advanced laser companies in the world.  Dr. DeRouen has brought new laser treatments and technology to the MS gulf coast that was only available in larger areas.

Smartlipo laser liposuction is one of our most popular procedures.  Dr. DeRouen is the first and currently the only physician on the MS gulf coast to use the Smartlipo MPX system.  This is the most advanced Smartlipo laser available.  This is the fourth upgrade to the smartlipo system.  What does this mean to the patient? Bottom line, awesome and much superior results when compared to the other systems.
